: Renowned for having the highest Certified Master Chef-to-student ratio in the country.

The college was born on October 24, 1961, when residents of Livonia, Plymouth-Canton, Garden City, and Clarenceville voted to establish a hub for intellectual and economic growth. Initially named Northwest Wayne Community College, it was renamed in 1963 to honor Henry Rowe Schoolcraft, a 19th-century Michigan scholar and explorer. A Legacy of "Looking Upward"

Today, Schoolcraft serves over 30,000 students annually and has become a leader in several specialized fields:

From its first classes on August 31, 1964, the college adopted the motto Semper Altius Aspice —"Look Ever Upward". This spirit is physically anchored by a 90-foot tall bell tower on the Livonia campus that chimes every quarter-hour. Cultivating Modern Greatness

: Beyond its main campus, it operates the Public Safety Training Complex and specialized centers for manufacturing and engineering.

: It is home to an acclaimed program that has earned medals in the U.S. Open Beer Championships. Changing Lives Our History - Schoolcraft College

The story of Schoolcraft College is one of "progressive innovation" and second chances, evolving from a local initiative in 1961 into a premier institution for the Metro Detroit community. A Vision of Independence
